2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs. 2021 Lexus IS: The C-Class Outclasses the IS

Mercedes-Benz has designed a sedan so unique with the C-Class, it has been a world-class favourite for many years. Four models provide unique choices for the 2021 model year. Whether you are a serious driving enthusiast or casual luxury sedan buyer, the C-Class has plenty of options.

One of our favourite ways to illustrate the C-Class is to compare it to a competing model. Here, we compare it to the 2021 Lexus IS sedan. 

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has the performance level you want

The C 300 4MATIC Avantgarde Edition features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower and a responsive 273 lb-ft of torque. The rear-wheel drive IS 300 includes a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that peaks a 241 horsepower. However, RWD isn't for everyone, and the C 300 includes all-wheel drive. 

The IS 300 and IS 350 both have a 3.5-litre V6 that produces 261 horsepower in the IS 300 and 311 horsepower in the IS 350. Although somewhat impressive, it doesn't compare to the capabilities of the remaining C-Class models. 

The AMG C 43 features a turbocharged V6 that outputs 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. The AMG C63 upgrades to a 469-horsepower handcrafted powertrain, and the AMG C 63 S adds a twin-turbo V8 that develops 503 horsepower. 

Each C-Class model includes a 9-speed automatic transmission. You will have to settle for an 8-speed in the IS 300 RWD and 6-speed transmissions in the IS 300 and 350 AWD. 

Overall, the C-Class provides the best variety of model and powertrain choices. 

The 2021 Mercedes Benz C-Class features more comfort and quality

Inside, the C-Class surrounds you with comfort and technology. Occupants have more head room and leg room than offered in the IS lineup, which makes longer trips more comfortable and bearable. 

C-Class AMG models feature the AMG Performance steering wheel with intuitive touch inputs, and they can be trimmed with Nappa leather, carbon fibre or DINAMICA microsuede. The AMG DRIVE UNIT places one-touch driving controls with color displays on the wheel itself. It's difficult to find this level of refinement in the IS.
